Warsaw apartment by  hauslab grzegorz pniok

No niin. This experience highlighted the importance of understanding the true value of a professional interior design service. A while ago, a potential client approached me for design advice for their new apartment in downtown Helsinki. They were busy and lacked the time and experience to plan their renovation, particularly their challenging kitchen layout. They had already consulted with a large kitchen manufacturer, but their proposed solution was simply a replication of the old layout, offering no functional improvements. After taking measurements and sketching initial ideas, I sent them a contract and told them that I have a working solution for them. To my surprise, they chose the manufacturer’s option without hearing about my design ideas.

This experience led me to reflect on the challenges of competing with free in-house design services offered by retailers. While these services may seem attractive due to the perceived cost savings, they often prioritize sales over the client’s best interests. In-house designers may focus on quickly closing the deal, limiting their consultations and failing to delve deeper into the client’s needs and challenges. In contrast, independent interior designers prioritize a holistic approach:

While the initial investment may seem significant, an independent designer can prevent costly mistakes and ensure you make informed decisions. For instance, a typical kitchen renovation costs between €10,000 and €30,000. Our design service, typically around €500-€1000 (equivalent to 10-20 hours of detailed work), represents a small fraction of this cost.
